ITINERARY

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Fynbos & Wetlands

Seal Island Boat Trip (weather dependent) | Kirstenbosch | False Bay Nature Reserve | Rondevlei Bird Sanctuary

Start the tour with a powerful mix of marine wildlife, fynbos birds, and wetland photography. If conditions allow, we begin with a Seal Island boat trip for dynamic action shots of Cape Fur Seals, seabirds, and dramatic ocean scenes. From there, we slow the pace at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, ideal for close-up bird portraits, sunbirds, and lush backgrounds. The day continues with a visit to False Bay Nature Reserve, before ending at Rondevlei Bird Sanctuary for golden-hour waterbird activity and reflection shots.
Overnight: Cape Town

Day 2 – Penguins & Peaks

Cape Point | Penguins | Chapman’s Peak Drive

Today is one of the Cape’s most iconic wildlife and landscape combinations. We head down the Peninsula to Cape Point, where rugged cliffs, ocean backdrops, and coastal wildlife create cinematic photographic opportunities. From there we photograph African Penguins (and often other coastal birds) before finishing with the world-famous Chapman’s Peak Drive, timed for the best light and sweeping ocean views.
Overnight: Cape Town

Day 3 – West Coast Wonders

Rietvlei | West Coast National Park | Langebaan Lagoon

A full day dedicated to the West Coast’s exceptional birding and open landscapes. Begin at Rietvlei, a productive wetland system for waterbirds and raptors, then continue to West Coast National Park. The afternoon is spent around Langebaan Lagoon, a prime location for waders, flamingos (seasonal), and beautiful minimalist compositions with birds against clean water and sand flats.
Overnight: West Coast / Langebaan area

Day 4 – West Coast to Cape Town

West Coast NP | Yzerfontein | Darling | Intaka Island

Enjoy a final morning session in West Coast National Park, then travel south with scenic stops at Yzerfontein continuing through Darling for farmland and fynbos birding. After lunch we’re back into the city for Intaka Island, a hidden wetland gem offering excellent close-range bird photography in beautiful late afternoon light.
Overnight: Cape Town

Day 5 – Whale Coast & The Rockjumper

Strandfontein Sewer Works | False Bay Coast Drive (Rooi-Els & Betty’s Bay) | Sunset Boat Cruise Stanford

This day is a dream for bird photographers chasing high species variety. Start at Strandfontein Sewer Works, one of the Cape’s most productive birding sites with excellent opportunities for action, behaviour, and rare visitors. From there, we take a scenic drive along the False Bay coastline toward Rooi-Els, searching for the endemic Cape Rockjumper and onto Betty’s Bay, Harold Porter Gardens. The day ends with a beautiful sunset birding boat cruise in Stanford .
Overnight: Stanford / Hermanus area

Day 6 – Overberg & De Hoop Nature Reserve

Overberg | De Hoop Nature Reserve

Travel through the wide-open landscapes of the Overberg, arriving at De Hoop Nature Reserve, one of the Cape’s best wildlife and birding destinations. This is a fantastic day for larger mammals and scenic wildlife photography — including bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, eland, ostrich, and raptors. De Hoop’s coastline and dunes also provide striking backgrounds and a very different photographic mood to Cape Town and the West Coast.
Overnight: De Hoop

Day 7 – De Hoop to Cape Town

De Hoop | Return to Cape Town

A final early morning shoot in De Hoop gives us the best chance for soft light and wildlife activity, before we begin the return journey to Cape Town. Depending on timing and conditions, we’ll include scenic stops along the way for last photographic opportunities. Tour ends with drop-off in Cape Town.
Tour ends: Cape Town
